Tsomgo Pokhri Sanrakshan Samiti (TPSS), is the first lake conservation committee formed in Sikkim. TPSS was established in 2008 under the lake conservation guidelines notified by the Forest, Environment, and Wildlife Management Department. Tsomgo Lake is one of the most frequently visited tourist spots in Sikkim. TPSS works on enhancing the community partnership for management and conservation of the wetland with support from NGO's and state government. They also work on capacity building programs to sensitize the community about the environmental issues and all-important days for conservation like World Environment Day, World Water Day.
TPSS has been involved in various activities and programs that safeguard the culture and traditions of the local communities. Another successful intervention where TPSS has made a difference is the zero waste around the lakeside and shopping complex by developing a well- planned resource recovery center in Tsomgo. It is awarded as the best NGO award for their work in cleanliness campaigns on the occasion of World Tourism Day on 30 th September 2013 by the Honourable Chief Minister Dr.Pawan Kumar Chamling.
TPSS have partnered with Grow-Trees to plant 35,000 native tree species to improve wildlife habitat at Tsomgo, East Sikkim. Planting trees will foster wildlife conservation, involving local communities which will upkeep their livelihood needs; this would also help preserve the traditional culture and heritage.
